So this weekend we thought we would go to the lake, chill out, and just take it easy. So Friday Joe and I did the Mature Living Festival at the ExpoCenter. It was a very full day and we were busy the whole time. We get back to the office at three hoping to quickly leave. Well, then KRCG calls and wants to interview Joe, plus he said he had some work to do before leaving. So we do work some more and don't leave the office until six. We go and pick up Ayla and head to the lake. Well, the traffic was horrible and it took us a long time to get there. Ayla (for all of you that know me well will not believe) didn't get to bed until 9:30 that night. So we think we are getting to sleep in, think wrong! Ayla wakes up at 6:30 and is done with her morning nap by 8:45 am. So we head down to the boat. We were going to take a ride on it. We find that the boat is a mess so we clean it up, then it's out of gas, so we fill it up with gas. Finally by 10 am we are out on the boat. We make arrangements to pick up Ken, Mom, Kenny, Tracy, Kirsten, and Gabe to go along with us. We pick them up. We take a long boat ride and then as Joe is motoring in a cove the boat stops. (Mind you we just had it serviced the week before and spent a lot of moooola on getting it done). After many, many attemps Joe calls the service station. While on the phone with them, he gets it started. So we are back in business. Well about 15 minutes later, we hit a massive tidal wave. It was the largest one ever. EVERYTHING gets soaked from head to toe. Ayla is screaming because she was laying down and the water went right up her little mouth and nose. Kirsten and Gabe think it's the coolest thing that ever happened while the adults are sitting there wondering what in heck just happened. We are soaked, so is Ayla's stroller, diaper bag, all of her toys and toybag, towels, everything. So we laugh about it and keep going. That is when the boat speakers started making these siren sounds. It's honestly at the point where we are all laughing. Finally they stop doing their thing, we drop the bunch off and head back. On the way back Joe and I discover neither of our cell phones work (mind you the answering service contacts us when something with the business happens). So we rush back, bag up all the wet stuff and work our way to the camper. In the midst of all of this Ayla gave up and took a nap. I think she thought, I am done being any part of this adventure. So Joe and I load all the stuff that we can up and go to mom's condo and there mom washes the stuff and dries it for us. It honestly was a HUGE mess (ever see board books wet?....ha ha). The biggest one ever. It took most of our Saturday to clean up from the tidal wave, but it was a story we will never forget. We did have a good weekend, but man what a mess we had. Oh yeah, and our phones started working the following day after drying out, and most of Ayla's toys started working again. We only had to throw one of them away. I have a feeling the books will be thrown away too but I haven't given up on those yet. I was just so glad I didn't have my camera. My mom had hers and being the smart lady she is she had everything in those water protective pouches.
Before the massive wave!
(Note: That blanket that she is covered up with can hold A LOT of water)
